Exchange Place, now known as Kennedy Plaza, has a rich history as a popular gathering space in Providence. Since its establishment in 1847, the plaza has served as a public park, a parking lot for early automobiles and a venue for public demonstrations and presentations. It has hosted massive crowds for important leaders and entertainers such as Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Houdini, and John F. Kennedy, for whom it was subsequently renamed.
